Info: Gent, capitala prov. Oost Vlanderen, Flandra.

Centrul are retea de tramvaie pe ecartament si trolee, toate mergind pe piatra cubica. Exista 6 linii de tramvaie, cuplate cate doua, adica doua cate doua au trasee aproape identice, ramificandu-se intr-un loc foarte aproape de unul din capete: 1, 10, 21,22,4,40. Nu exista bucle de intoarcere, ci numai rebrusmente, iar tramvaiele au dubla comanda. De asemenea este o combinatie de tramvaie vechi si foarte vechi, mici, cu tramvaie noi si ceva mai maricele.

Troleele sunt articulate si circula si pe strazi inguste. Aici nimeni nu isi pune problema manevrabilitatii unei masini articulate sau a oricarei alte scuze pentru a aduce masini scurte.

Reteaua de tramvai se extinde in prezent.

Cand am fost acolo in ianuarie am observat in centru niste capete nefolosite plecand din reteaua existenta. Se vad si pe aceasta harta. Un localnic mi-a zis ca fosta administratie incepuse lucrarile de extindere (practic conversia fostei linii de troleibuz la tramvai) insa actuala administratie a inghetat lucrarile, deci deocamdata au ramas cu macazele si acele capete nefolosite.

Problema e că, în Belgia, există doar 4 operatori de transport public:
- STIB, Societatea Intercomunală de Transport Bruxelles, care ţine de Guvernul Regiunii Bruxelles-Capitale
- TEC, Transport en comun (Transport în comun), al Guvernului Regiunii Valone
- De Lijn (Linia), al Guvernului Regiunii Flamande
- SNCB - Societatea Naţională a Căilor Ferate Belgiene

Practic, transportul local e gestionat direct de guvernele regiunilor şi nu de primării sau de asociaţii de dezvoltare intercomunitare cum este prin restul Europei.
